Quad Disadvantages and Countertactics

    Disadvantages of Quad

However incredible and awesome it may seem, having the quad also has some serious disadvantages. When you have quad, you have to realize that you are glowing extremely brightly - so bright that you emanate an aura around you, one that extends a good deal of distance around you. This glowing aura will give your opponents fair warning that you are approaching. It can be seen through walls and around corners. This gives the "first shot" advantage to your opponent, thus if you are low on health, you will be sniped before you can even turn the corner. In addition, when you have the quad, you make a very loud sound every time you fire. This also helps your opponents prepare for you, as they'll hear exactly where you are and what weapon you're using.

    Engaging The Quad Enemy

    Run!!
You are not a yellow-bellied chicken for running away from an enemy who has quad. It only means you respect your opponent's skill enough to know that all he needs to do is to nick you with a rocket blast to kill you. If/when you run, stay away from walls, and remember that if he hits anything remotely close to you, you will be seriously injured, or even dead. The safest bet is to round a corner as fast as you can, because even when you are out of his line of sight, he can still kill you by hitting the ceiling or wall.

Make sure you always know where he is
If you lose your enemy, meaning you have no clue where he is, you are in deep trouble. Keep track of a quaded enemy no matter what you're doing. This means never fully turn your back on an opponent with quad. Knowing where your enemy's at is a vital part of the game; however, when he has quad, it makes it that much more important. Running around a corner and being surprised by an enemy may hurt you, but it's unlikely you will die by the initial hit. However, if you run around a corner and find a quaded enemy standing in front of you, you've got nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. . . gibs for everyone!

No Quad glow vs. a very visible Quad glow!

    Wait around a corner
If you have rockets, you may want to wait around a corner for the quaded enemy. When you see the glow approaching, shoot at the ground in front of it. There are several methods of doing this, depending on what you want to achieve.

    • If your opponent has major health and armor, you probably can't kill him with one or two rockets, which means you shouldn't stick around after you get the first one or two (depending on your confidence) rockets off. (This is before he actually rounds the corner.) Shoot one or two rockets, then back out of there. Your opponent will do one of two things after those rockets hurt him. One, he will charge into the room and hope to kill you with an all out barrage. Two, he will wait a few seconds to see if you are still shooting rockets - If you're not, he will charge into the room and go after you. Three, he will turn around and go find some easier frags to kill.
    • If your opponent has major health and armor but doesn't have any decent weapons, you can probably stick around after shooting the first couple rockets. Wait to see if he is daring enough to come in, if he's not, then you may want to go after him to finish him off. This is, of course, if you have armor and health.
    • If your opponent doesn't have armor, you would have probably killed him already. If you haven't, and he has rockets, I would recommend not going after him. Hurt opponents tend to fire a rocket behind them while they are running - you may walk right into a quaded one if you chase. If he doesn't have rockets or grenades, you may want to try to finish him off.
    • If you don't know what his health or armor is at, but you're sure that he has rockets, your first two rockets should determine what you should and shouldn't do. If you fired a good ground shot before he walked in, he may have been bounced into a wall. If you're lucky, he will blow himself up. But either way, fear the unknown. After your first shot or two, back out of the room. Never turn your back on the doorway he may be coming through.
