Rocket Launcher Guys
Areas covered
RL area/Bridge/Yellow Armor
The RL guys usually receive the least recognition for their efforts, because their scores are usually not quite as high as the Quad or RA guys' are. However, their importance and ability to winning the game is beyond words. They are not unlike the troops in the trenches in World War II. They do all the dirty work, dealing the most damage to the other team, but also sustaining the most. They fight the war, and ultimately decide whether it is won or lost.
In their area, they control three of the most powerful weapons in the game: the grenade launcher, rocket launcher, and lightning gun. They also control the second most protective armor in the game, the yellow armor. They can supply their teammates with weapons, particularly the RL, at any given time. They keep the enemy from getting their hands on good weapons at all times. This is the key to locking down the level. Without RL area control, and in turn the RL guys to do it, it would be impossible the control the map effectively.
What does it take to be an 'RL guy?'
The RL guys require the most specific set of skills, as their area is of the most vital importance. Here is a list of the skills (not including the obvious, such as aim, knowledge of sounds, etc.) that the RL guys should have:
1. Teamwork - This one is by far the most important quality he must have. When you have multiple guys in the RL area sharing so little resources, they must know how to work together perfectly. They must be willing to give up an armor, health, or ammo when their teammate needs it more. The RL guys are constantly covering and protecting each other. They are always moving, jumping over one another, shooting over the other's head, diving into water, shooting in and out of water… there are so many things these guys have to do together, that they must not be selfish or frag hungry. The entire team's success hinges greatly upon how well these guys work together.
2. Dodging abilities - This may sound strange, but the RL guys should be able to dodge and maneuver really well. There is very little health/armor in the RL area, so someone who can dodge enemy fire really well can be an extremely big asset to the team.
3. Underwater fighting abilities - Half of the RL area is covered in water. Two of the three strong weapons in the game are underwater. Usually the incoming enemies use the water as shelter from enemy fire, so having a guy who's great at fighting underwater is crucial. Additionally, the enemy will usually try to lure the RL guys into the water, and then discharge them. For this reason, underwater fighting skills are even more important, because they must kill the enemy before the lightning gun respawns, or before they are able to pick it up.
4. Timing - Knowing when the Quad, yellow armor, and rocket launcher respawns is also very important. These guys must have good "internal" clocks, where they can sense when these items will respawn. If they don't, they won't know when to be prepared for an incoming quad - even if you think your teammate has control of the quad, things happen… so it's best to know at least when to expect the quad to be back. Additionally, you'll want to control the RL, so you'll know when the enemy can't get it, and when your teammates can.
5. Complementing RL guys - Do your RL guys work well together? They most certainly should! Get guys who play well together and know each other really well. It's a great asset when one player knows exactly what the other is going to do, so they can anticipate each other's moves, and thus work more effectively as a team. Furthermore, if one is great at fighting underwater, and the other is great at fighting on the bridge, that also adds greatly to their effectiveness. One guy can jump in after the enemy, while the other sits on top covering him.
