Shooting the Ground
Have you ever faced an opponent that seemingly was able to hit you with every single rocket, and no matter which way you strafed or turned, he was still able to hurt you? (without the use of bots) Well, the reason your opponent was able to do this is because he shot the floor beside you, rather than aiming at you directly. This particular technique is called "shooting ground", or in other words, shooting your opponent's feet with a rocket. As you may have noticed when you've blown yourself up because you shot an enemy with a rocket up-close, the blast from a rocket can do a significant amount of damage. This is what's called blast damage, and the distance at which the blast will affect you is called the blast radius.

    Try dodging that shot!

The technique is simple, but is probably the most effective skill you can learn in the game. In order to achieve this, you will need to either set "+mlook" in your console (recommended), or hold down your button for "free-look (looking up and down)." Basically, whenever you use rockets, just aim at your opponent's feet instead of his chest. I have found that walking with the crosshairs slightly lower than normal will make shooting ground feel a lot more comfortable, as you don't need to look down before you aim. Of course, it still requires you to aim to hurt your opponent, but you no longer have to hit your opponent squarely in the face to do damage to him with a rocket. The closer you shoot the rocket at your opponent's feet, the more damage you will do to him.
